Alfred J. Biegert Jr. of Austin passed from this life to the next on June 22, 2017, at the age of 94.

Al was born on May 14, 1923, in Burke, Virginia. When he was one, his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he resided until 2010, when he and his wife moved to Austin. Al graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1941. Al was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran who enlisted on December 7, 1942, and saw service as a military photo lab technician throughout the South Pacific theater, ending in Japan.

After the war, he attended Southwest Photo Arts Institute in Dallas to became a professional photographer. He worked for several studios in San Antonio where he photographed many weddings. In 1964 he began a civil service career at the Randolph AFB photo lab where he remained for 23 years.

His many interests included: writing poetry, gardening, fishing, birdhouse building, extensively decorating for holidays, and patrolling his neighborhood as a Citizen On Patrol. Al loved the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, wearing his autographed "George Gervin" ball cap almost as often as his WWII Vet cap.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Rees Biegert, son Larry Biegert and daughter-in-law Melissa Langley Biegert of Austin, grandsons Austin and Hunter, and other extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilton Biegert, and nephew, Doug Biegert, both of Richardson.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at Sunset Funeral Home 1701 Austin Hwy. San Antonio, TX. Chapel services will begin at 2:30 with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Windcrest United Methodist Church, Honor Flight-Austin, or the charity of your choice.
