EVERTS, MARGARET FRANCES—Margaret Frances Grote Everts was born on February 28, 1922, to Mollie (Reinsch) and John Grote in Momence Township near Shickley. She passed away on June 25, 2017.

Margaret grew up on a farm near Shickley and attended a country school where he carried her lunch in a molasses bucket. She attended school through the eighth grade when she left school to work and help her family. After meeting her eventual husband, Herman, at a dance, she moved to Lincoln. She worked at various places in Lincoln including a restaurant where she was very successful in earning tips as a waitress. She often shared her secret regarding such, “You just had to be nice to people.”
Margaret was baptized on March 1, 1922, at Turkey Creek/St. Mary’s Catholic Church near Shickley. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton on March 29, 1942.

She married Herman Everts on December 1, 1942, in Marysville, Kan. Herman and Margaret eventually lived on a farm near Grafton for many years before moving to Lincoln in 1969. They raised all eight children on that farm in Fillmore County. Margaret lived in her home in Lincoln for 40 years before moving to Bickford Senior Living in Lincoln in 2009. She had resided at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward since 2014.

Margaret enjoyed traveling, reading, sports, playing cards, and most of all, her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman; brothers, Bernard Grote, Don Grote, Jerry Grote and Robbie Grote and sisters, Eleanor Oates and Mary Olson.

Margaret is survived by her eight children, Jim (Rosemary) Everts, Miriam (Gary) Kimbrough, Dick (Betty) Everts, Steve (Joan) Everts, Ed (Laura) Everts, Jan (John) Halleen, Sheri (Jay) Noren- Everts and Kathy (Steve) Danielson. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Margaret was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva on July 1. Pastor Stephen Kruschel officiated. Denise Hinrichs accompanied the congregation in the singing of “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Abide With Me,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Jesus Loves Me.”

Pallbearers for the service included Margaret’s grandchildren, Michelle Fosler, Scott Everts, Cindy Krushenisky, Mark Kimbrough, Sarah Caldwell, Carrie Kimbrough, Lori Blume, Melissa Everts, Nichole Payne, Joel Everts, Eric Everts, Jeff Everts, Jessie Everts, Josh Everts, Tim Everts, Gretchen Everts, Emily Halleen, Elizabeth Rogers, Justin Rogers, Jake Danielson and Kyle Danielson.

A burial was held in the Geneva Public Cemetery following the funeral service.
