NOTE: Howard upon graduating the eighth grade was accepted at Colorado A&Es School of Veterinary Medicine. He was the youngest student to ever graduate from A&E being 17 at the time. In a transitional period before becoming a Vet. he traveled and played saxophone with The Lawrence Welk Band, and broke horses with screen star Tom Mix. During the Great Depression he lost the family homestead in Fort Collins and decided to relocate to California. Howard took the state veterinary exam. and although out of college for some 20 years and not reviewing any material, placed third in the state exams.
