Bert C. Burchess, 94, of Columbus died Wednesday Sept. 19, 1990 at Columbus Community Hospital. Mr. Burchess was born at Wauneta Aug 31, 1896, and attended Glenvil and Hastings schools. A pharmacist, he owned and operated Bert's Drug in Hastings until moving to Columbus in 1968.
He married Hedwig Way on May 6, 1917 at Red Cloud. She died in 1964. He married Effie Nielsen Aug 10, 1968 at Columbus. She died in 1977.
He was a member of Mid-West Masonic Lodge 317 where he held the Jordan Medal as the oldest living member, Scottish Rite, Tehama Temple and St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral where he served as senior warden on the vestry.
Survivors are two sons, E. W. "Gene" and Jack both of Hastings; one daughter, Betty White of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Roberta Saalfeld of Columbus; one stepson, Edward Nielsen of Columbus; one sister, Marie Gray of Hastings; 10 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
