Eugene Lloyd Vorhies, age 78, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at South Big Horn Critical Access Hospital between Basin and Greybull.

Eugene was born on July 10, 1938, in Newcastle, Wyoming, to Lloyd and Freida (Schlup) Vorhies. Eugene spent his life in Wyoming and graduated from Greybull High School.

Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Oxford. He retired as a senior chief, after serving 20 years. As a civilian, Eugene was a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired after working 20 years.

Eugene loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved shooting sports and enjoyed going to the rifle range. His last adventure was going fishing in Alaska with his son Darren.

Eugene is survived by three sons: Darren of Sheridan, Wyoming, Quinton of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Gary; and two brothers, Lee and Wayne, both of Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Per Eugene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors assisted the family with the arrangements.
