Leonard G. Burke Jr., 68, son of the late Leonard G. Burke Sr. and Alice V. Corbett Burke, died while on vacation. Len grew up in Harford, Conn. He received his associates degree at St. Thomas Seminary and his B.S. in engineering at the University of Hartford. After his marriage in 1957, the couple moved to Scotiawhere Len worked as a mechanical engineer for ALCO in Schenectady. He received his M.B.A. from RPI and began working for General Electric Co., where he worked in various departments. The most recent being with G.E. Power Systems where he traveled extensively to Europe, Africa and the Middle East until his retirement in 1994. He then donated his time for seven years helping his daughter and son-in-law at Apple Community Pharmacy in Malta. Len was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia for 44 years and was an active volunteer in many areas. He served as a lector and Eucharistic minister, a CYO Moderator, a CYO commissioner for boy's and girl's basketball as well as a CYO coach. He served as a retreat coordinator for the Albany Diocesan LEAP program, a participant in the Diocesan Formation for Ministry Program, a Cursillo participant and was actively involved in prison ministry right up to his death. He and his wife were Pre-Cana leaders for many years. Len also served most recently as a fifth grade religious education instructor. Len also served as a board member for the Albany Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and was very active in the yearly 'Walk for the Cure' which raised millions of dollars for Juvenile Diabetes research. He coached Beukendaal Baseball for many years and was an assistant coach for the Burnt Hills Jr. Baseball, Babe Ruth division. He also served on the Scotia-Glenville Park Committee. Len is survived by his wife; five children; 11 grandchildren; two brothers and seven sisters.
