Honoring his wishes, there will be no formal services held.
Born in the mountains of Kentucky on June 18, 1939, Mr. Blackburn was the youngest of six children of the late R.E. "Dodd" Blackburn and Anna Belle Simmons Blackburn. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joey Blackburn, a daughter, Lisa May Blackburn, and his 5 siblings- Hazel, Charles, Colonel, Crit and Hyllis .
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy Blackburn of Lenox; three daughters, Barbara Blackburn and Hyllis Blackburn of Tifton and Ruthann Kujat of Michigan; one son, Glenn Blackburn of Michigan; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his lapdog and constant companion, Toto. He is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Dewayne and Becky Hill of Lenox as well as a number of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
A mechanic by trade, Joe was also a skilled woodworker and could build any and everything. He loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends, hosting numerous cookouts, and found special joy in pulling pranks on those he loved most. He was a man who lived life simply, found happiness in helping others, and never met a stranger. His passing has left a void that will never be filled. For those who knew and loved him, take comfort in his final words- "Just think of me as I am now. I love each and every one of you. God bless you all".
