Abrahm G Pauley, 40, of Des Moines passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at Methodist Hospital surrounded by his family.

Abe was born on October 27, 1976 in Lancaster, CA to Terry and Diana Pauley. In high school, his family moved to Pine Mountain Club, California. It was there that he joined the AFJROTC-937 and in 1994, he helped feed and house thousands of people in the Northridge earthquake. Later that year he was awarded the Humanitarian award for the efforts. Abe graduated from John H Francis Polytechnic High school in 1996. And in 1997, Abe made his way to Iowa where he was married and had three beautiful children.

It is said that in his early years was when he realized he had a passion for artistry and entrepreneurship. As a child growing up in Antelope Valley, he would sit in his front yard drawing pictures and selling them. When people would walk by, they would stop to see his drawings. Abe would then offer to draw them anything they wanted, and they would walk away with a one-of-a-kind piece of art, for a charge of course. At one time, he also planned and coordinated the sales of the mistletoes that he would take from the trees in his front yard. He talked his cousin Armando into standing in front of the local grocery store with him, where they ended up selling their little bags of mistletoes.

As a teenager, he learned to shoot and loved to hunt squirrels. He also found he enjoyed weight training, and became conscious of his love for martial arts. He began training in Van Nuys with Blinkey Rodriguez.

In 2003, as a landscape designer for a local company in Des Moines, some of his work was being recognized. A few years later, he began his own business and his work was being published in magazines and newspapers both locally and regionally.

We talk about his passions and his loves, but there was no greater love for Abe than the love he had for his three children. Andrew (19), Autumn (15) and Annabella (13). With the support of his family and friends, Abe raised his children on his own and they were a “team”. The children loved going to his job sites, meeting his clients and help him work. They just wanted to go wherever he would go and he was so proud to have them along. He would always tell his friends that became new parents, “Always try to be there for them and love them. Life may throw you curveballs, but it’s how you react with them that matters”.

Life threw Abe another curve ball in February of 2016, when he found out that he had Leukemia. The news was devastating to he and his family. But he was a warrior and he was going to challenge this disease. There were times when he wanted to give up, but his children were the reason he fought every day, so courageously for his life. He always believed that it is not cancer he is “battling”, it was his life.

We will always remember Abe as a ‘gentle giant’, that would have done anything for anyone. He was the kind of man who would stop anything to help a friend. He loved his friends, and considered them family. He talked about his family with pride in his eyes. He was loyal to the end. He will be deeply missed by everyone that he touched so deeply.

He is survived by his three children, Andrew, Autumn and Annabella; his parents, Terry and Diana Pauley; His sister Tanya and her husband Francesco, their children Rudy (Maria), Elise (Edwin), Victoria (Jose), Ruben and grandchildren Alena, Lorenzo, Abel, Jayden, Angelo, Emilio and Mateo; His brother Danny, and his wife Desiere and their children Destiny, Adrina, Arin and Daniel. Many Uncles, Aunts, cousins and dear friends he considers family and Brother Daniel and his daughter Mariah.

“This life is what you make it. No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.” - Marilyn Monroe
