Mrs. Lillian Varain

Mrs. Lillian Varain, a member of an old-time Mariposa county family, passed away at Mercy Hospital Monday morning following an illness of a week from pneumonia.

Mrs. Varain who was born at Webb Station, Mariposa county, in 1892, was a daughter of late Eddie Webb, an old-time stage driver on the Yosemite route, and the widow of the late John J. Varain, for many years a resident of Pleasant Valley, Mariposa county.

She leaves two sons and a daughter, John W., Allen E. and Miss Clara Varain, all residents of Merced. Other surviving relatives are her mother, Mrs. Clara Webb of Webb Station; two brothers, Eddie and Joe Webb, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Founts, Mrs. John Thomas and Mrs. Tony Francis.

Funeral services were held in Our Lady of Mercy Church Wednesday morning, and interment was in the family plot at Snelling.
