Charles "Rate" Love, 75, Baytown, formally of Colorado City passed away at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston August 1, 2017.
Rate was a very strong willed man with a hard work ethic and one of the best personalities one could have. He knew how to crack a good joke and how to roll with the punches, but he also knew when it was time to be serious. He was the type of person who never met a stranger and could get along with nearly anybody. In his early years he spent some time working in the oil fields in Odessa before moving to the Houston area where he was an independent crane operator, working on many different construction jobs until his health forced him into retirement in 2000. He accomplished many things in his life but one of the biggest was overcoming one of his biggest obstacles which was to beat cancer, he was a cancer survivor for over 17 years. In his spare time he could be seen out gardening with his wife, or taking his boys to show cattle.
Rate is survived by his wife Mary Alice Love of Baytown, by his children Wade Love and wife Brenda of Mineral Wells, Texas and Tye Love and wife Stephanie of Decatur, Texas, Joseph Brewer and girlfriend Donna of Thornton, Colorado , Roger Torres of Erie, Colorado, Cecilia Cribley and husband Rex of San Antonio, as well as by his grandchildren Anna Marie Cribley, McKenna Brewer, Ben Torres, Ally Torres, and Sean Brewer. He is also survived by his brothers Wayman Love and Eldon Love as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Durwood and by his brother Jimmy (Rab) Love.
A funeral service for Rate will be held on Friday, August 4th at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home at 2 pm with a visitation to be held from 1-2 pm 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
