Sam Savinelli passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 4, 2016. Sam was born and raised in Lawrence, a city he loved. In 1955, he graduated from Carson Long Military Institute of Carlisle, PA. He always spoke fondly of his time at Carson Long. After school, he began a career in the United States Marines as a helicopter crew chief during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis. He served for over 10 years, and upon an honorable discharge, he worked at DeMoulas Market for 30 years as a meat cutter. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cribbage and reading about history. In his youth, he was an avid sportsman, boxing and playing football in the Marines. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, most especially his grandsons. He attended every baseball and basketball game and was their biggest support.
