The daughter of John Newton and Gorda Frances Lambert Cantrell, Katherine spent her early years in the Liberty community of Granville, Tennessee. The family moved to a farm in the Cookeville, Tennessee area when she was about 10 years old. She graduated from Algood High School just before her 17th birthday and convinced her father to allow her to move to Detroit, Michigan for work. He agreed since 6 other family members were already living there. Her first job was a clerk-typist at Zenith Carburetor where she met what was to be a life-long friend. Ginny later introduced her to her brother, Bob, who would become Kathy's husband. They married 28 June 1947, eventually having three children together.

Kathy loved life, laughter and travel and had many adventures around the world.

Kathy was married to Robert E Bohm for 38 years and then to Horst R Henschel for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bohm (1926-1986); her husband, Horst Henschel (1926-2014); and her son, Robert Bohm, Jr. (1950-2013).

A beautiful funeral paying tribute to a life well lived was held on 14 June 2016. The service was followed by burial at Christian Memorial Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
