Carl Dalton Reed, 101, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, of congestive heart failure. Born Oct. 13, 1905, in Luling to Bob and Dovie Reed, he was the fourth child of eight children and the only surviving sibling.

Preceded in death by wife, Stella; son, Charles; son-in-law, Murray Maddox; and sister, Zilla Blackwell of Luling; brothers-in-law, Alton and Chester Williams and their wives, Maurine, Lola Mae and Eva Lee, Curtis Williams and wife Jackie of Fishkill, N.Y.; niece, Sandra Shepherd Herron of Lewisville; and nephew, Gale Shepherd of Lewisville.

Survivors include wife, Nellie Pearl Sanders Vandergriff Reed of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Imogene Maddox of Pittsburg; stepdaughter, Millie Sanders Winningham and husband Don of Tulsa, Okla.; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Reed of Prescott, Ariz.; grandchildren, Julia Henson and husband Nick of Kilgore, Diane Reeves and Brenda Ann Maxwell, both of Pittsburg, and Bob Maddox and wife Roxanne of Jacksboro; great-grandchildren, Chris Hachtel and wife Monica of Tyler, Megan Reeves and Misty Roberts and husband Gary, all of Pittsburg, and Miles and McCall Maddox of Jacksboro; great-great-grandchildren, Chelsea Victoria Roberts of Pittsburg; great-great-great-grandchild, Jacob Hachtel of Tyler; nieces, Zilla Marie Willis of Luling, Betty Wagner of Tyler; nephews, Jack Fox and wife Vivian of Carthage and Ray Williams and wife Ella of Ovilla; great-nephews, Reed Boyd of Austin, Chet Williams of Norman, Okla.; great-nieces, Cay Melanson of Georgetown and Amy Boyd of Corpus Christi; and great-great-nieces, Kate Kamuth of Plano and Kelly Op de Weegh of Katie.

Carl spent more than 65 years in the oil business, 56 years with W.B. Hinton Production Co., in Mount Pleasant. He was part of the great Kilgore Oil Boom in its beginning days. He retired as general superintendent at the age of 75 from Hinton Production. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. After retirement he and Nell moved to Lake Tyler, where they were members of First Baptist Church of Whitehouse. In 1999, because of health reasons he and Nell moved to Tulsa, Okla., to be near Nell's daughter, Millie and son-in-law, Don Winningham.

Special thanks to the many wonderful people from Odyssey Hospice and Visiting Nurses Association, both of Tulsa, Okla., for the wonderful care and comfort they provided during his illness.

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bates-Cooper-Sloan, 2805 S. Jefferson, Mount Pleasant, 903-572-3621.

Graveside services will be Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Mount Pleasant.
