The family moved to Abington Township with many Rhode Islanders following Reverend William Stovier/Stovyer to the Six Principles Baptist Church he established in 1817 at Dalton, Lackawanna, PA. aka Bailey's Hollow. The church was also a stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.

It is believed but not yet fully proven that Ann Merebah/Maria (Andrews) Matteson and child 4 are buried with that congregation at the Shoemaker Cemetery in Dalton PA.

3. David Matteson b 09/17/1839 West Greenwich, RI d 09/06/1919 in Abilene, Dickinson, KS.

4. Infant Matteson b and died 06/24/1841 in Abington Township, Lackawanna (then Luzerne County) PA.

May be the relative mentioned in Kansas City Missouri her sister Delia Towne was visiting one Christmas. She does not appear in the 1870 census in Delavan with the Widow Abby.

7.Dorcas (Matteson) Mosher
m William Henry Mosher brother to Thomas and eventually moved to Belleville, Republic, KS.

8. Cordelia "Delia" (Matteson) Towne

m but separated or divorced from Ezra A Town(e) of Owatonna, Steele, MN. Delia lived with her 3 married daughters in the Grand Forks, ND. area. One daughter was well off and Delia summered in ND and wintered in various other locales. The women were often mentioned in the Society pages. Daughter Genevieve (Towne) Benner submitted their DAR application in 1920 to Revolutionary War Patriot David Matteson, Philip's Great-Great grandfather of West Greenwich, Kent, RI.

9. John A Matteson m Ida Bowman in Kansas and they moved to Fresno and Lemoore, CA. to farm. John later lived with his daughter Hattie in Santa Monica and Los Angeles, CA. They are buried in Lemoore, CA.

Alvira, John and Mary are in the 1870 census Delavan, WI with the widow Abby, but Ida is not.

The family arrived in Delavan between 1857-1860 and by 1862 the two eldest boys were enlisted and fighting in the Civil War.

William died in the conflict and he willed his belongings to his nephew Charles by his brother David.

Philip's Delavan will was administered by the Widow Abby and lists the remaining living 8 living children and the amounts they were to receive after all debts paid.
