Biography - Ann was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, where her parents were baptized into LDS Church. After her father and several siblings died, her mother left Scotland with Annie and her brother.

On 20 April 1855, they boarded the ship, Samuel Curling, in Liverpool. On board, they were assisted by Sylvester Low, who was "bound for Zion" after being disowned by his family. Annie's heart went out to Sylvester in his loneliness, and her mother promised him that when the time came, he would marry Annie. Jacobina later said that she had seen Sylvester in a dream before leaving Scotland.

The ship reached New York City on May 22 or 23, 1855. They all traveled by rail to Pittsburg, then by boat on the Ohio River to St. Louis. There Sylvester had to stay and work to replenish his funds. Jacobina and her children continued by boat up the Missouri River to Atchison, Kansas where they joined a wagon train to Utah.

Sylvester married Annie in the Salt Lake Temple on February 28, 1858. In the Spring of 1860, they moved to Providence in Cache Valley. Later, church authorities called them to help settle Bear Valley but the family eventually returned in 1865 to settle in Smithfield. Sylvester served early Mormonism's cause by helping to build the Cottonwood Canal, defending the Echo Canyon entrance to the Salt Lake Valley in 1857 from the incursion of "Buchanan's Army," serving mission in Britain 1886-88, and doing genealogical work in Scotland in 1889.

Sylvester had married second wife, Mary Smith, in the Logan Temple on November 13, 1884. In 1892, after the Manifesto, Sylvester moved to Cardston, Alberta, with Mary and their three children, while Annie remained at Smithfield, with her 11 adult children. Sylvester and Mary eventually had seven children, five boys and two girls, some of them being named the same as the children of his first family! Mary died in 1936 at Cardston.
