Thomas D. Helm, second son of Judge John (1761-1840) and Sarah Brown Helm (1772-1853), was born December 8, 1794, in Breckinridge County, Ky. He lived in Union Star, Ky. in the house which his father built in 1792. He married in 1822, Sophia Lowry (1804-66/8), daughter of Thomas Lowry Sr. Their six children were John Thomas (1824-51); Benjamin Dudley (1826-); Lewis (1829-42); Sarah Elizabeth (1831-59) who married in 1852, (?)James G. Stephens (1829-1900); Matilda J. (1834-1908); and Lowry Brown Helm (1836-1910).
Matilda J. Helm (1834-1908) lived in Union Star, Ky. and married in 1860, Dr. William Milner (1830-1905) (Med. College of Louisville), who immigrated from Scotland in 1854. Their five children were Helm E. (1869-1950); Dr. William Lowry (1870-1944); Dr. James Thomas (1872-1926) who in 1900 lived in Patesville, Ky.; Lewis Pope (1874-1954); and Matilda "Mattie" C. Milner (1877-1914). Dr. William Lowry Milner (1870-1944) lived in Breckinridge County and married in 1899, Lena Sue Richardson (1872-1959), daughter of Daniel (1833-1916) and Mary Ashcraft Richardson (1844-1925), of Union Star. Their daughter was Dr. Virginia Helm Richardson Milner (1899-26)(JohnsHopkins Med 1924) who died from streptococcic meningitis.

Thomas D. Helm died October 25, 1846. His wife, Sophia Lowry, died June 30, 1866. They are buried in the Union Star Cemetery, Breckinridge County, Ky.
