Martin W. Hinz, 89, of South Haven died Tuesday, February 20 at his home. He was born January 19, 1918 in South Haven, Michigan to Karl and Hulda (Winkle) Hinz. Martin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa, Italy, Japan and France. Martin married Edith Carlson on November 17, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Martin started his farm in 1953. He was known as a hog farmer but raised vegetables, fruits and other livestock. Farming was Martin's job but also his passion. He loved farming and loved to see things grow. He retired in 1980. Martin was a firm believer in God and always kept the sabith sacred. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bangor, formerly of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in South Haven. Martin was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death along with his parents by 4 brothers – Herman Hinz, carl Hinz, Paul Hinz and Walt Hinz. Four sisters – Marie Acerra, Minnie Long, Ruth Filbrandt and Ella Hinz. He is survived his wife – Edith Hinz of South Haven, Michigan. Two sons – Charlie (Linda) Hinz and Robert (Carol) Hinz both of South Haven, Michigan. Two daughters – Carol (Ron) Hall of Bangor, Michigan and Jean (Virgil) Callender of Riverside, Michigan. 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. One sister – Frieda Antonson of St. Joseph, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 27 from 10 – 11 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Pastor Joshua Becker officiating. Memorial contributions can be made the church.
