Husband of Jeannie Olivia Berry Webber, whom he married about 1856 in Brooklyn, NY, and father of Catherine Laura (married Edward Price Chamberlin), Oliver Ketcham, Daniel A., Cordelia (married George C. Reade), Anna Christina M. (married Lewis), Whitefield (married Sarah Barter Ford), and Raphael Sammis (married Marian Maffitt, married Hylleborg Karen Lilli Olsen).
In 1870, Oliver K. Sammis, aged 54, a physician, was living in Huntington, NY, with his wife, Jennie O.B. Sammis, aged 34, and children, Catharine Sammis, aged 13, Oliver K. Sammis, aged 12, Daniel Sammis, aged 6, Cordelia Sammis, aged 4, and Anna C.M. Sammis, aged 2, all in school.
In 1880, Oliver K. Sammis, aged 64, was living in Deer Park, Babylon, NY, with his wife, Jane O.B. Sammis, aged 46, and children, Daniel Sammis, aged 16, Cordelia Sammis, aged 14, Christina Sammis, aged 12, Whitfield Sammis, aged 7, and Raphael Sammis, aged 4. He was shown to be a Doctor of Medicine.
Dr. O.K. Sammis, of Deer Park, Long Island, was a passenger on the Narrangansett on the night of the Sound disaster. His portfolio, hat, and some letters addressed to the Rev. Mr. Everet, of Jersey City, were picked up near the wrecked steamer two days after the disaster. Nothing has been heard of the Doctor since he went on board of the steamer, and his brother, D.S.S. Sammie, of Fire Island, would be greatly obliged if persons having information of the whereabouts of Dr. Sammis would communicate with him.
His body was found on June 27, 1880 on the shore at Great Neck in the town of Waterford, Connecticut, and after an inquest failed to identify the body, it was buried there on the 29th, and was later identified by the family to be Dr. O.K. Sammis, of Deer Park, Suffolk County, Long Island, one of the victims of the Narrangansett disaster.
Obituary - June 11, 1880, L.I. Sound, (in Narrangansett disaster), Dr. Oliver K. Sammis, 67 years.
July 13, 1880 - The headless body which was found at Great Neck, on June 27, and which was buried without being identified, has since been exhumed and identified as Dr. O.K. Sammis, of Deer Park, brother of D.S.S. Sammis, of Fire Island. The deceased was a passenger on the ill-fated Narrangansett."
