Thomas Earl Alford, of rural Saint James, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 peacefully on the family farm at the age of 80.

Tom was born in Turlock, California on July 23, 1934 to the late Fred and Edna (Harlan) Alford. Tom married Carol Lee Hake in Denair, California on February 8, 1958, and his wife of 51 years preceded him in death in November 2009.

Tom is survived by eldest son Clinton D. Alford, second son Kenneth R. Alford (and wife Dulce), and youngest son Scott Alford (and wife Mary), all of rural Saint James. Tom leaves behind three grand-children: Kamron Alford of St. Louis, Kyle Alford of Columbus, Ohio, and Jalyn Alford of rural Saint James. Tom also is survived by brother John (and wife Barbara) Alford of Kingdom, Arizona, sister Mary (Alford) Moore (and husband Don) of Winton, California, and brother Roy Alford of Dolan Springs, Arizona.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by younger brother Samuel Alford.

Tom was a cattle farmer all his life, specifically raising, showing, and selling Polled Herefords for 62 years. Tom was a top showman on the professional cattle circuit in the Western United States, with Champions at Cow Palace and California State Fair. Tom was also recognized as the breeder of A Gold Pride 7, the first Gold Seal performance sire in the history of the Polled Hereford breed. In 1978 Tom began a dairy with registered Guernsey cattle, and milked as well as showed them around California with great success, the pinnacle being earning Supreme Grand Champion of All Breeds at the National Western Holstein show–with a Guernsey!

In 1990 Tom and Carol traded their California property for 500 acres south of Saint James, continuing to breed, raise, sell and occasionally show Polled Herefords, Guernseys, and even Gelbvieh, Limousine, and Holstein breeds of cattle.

Tom faithfully attended Rolla Bible Church for the last 23 years of his life, being involved in singing and outreach ministries to local nursing homes. The most important thing in his life was his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ....

There was a private family burial service on Sunday, March 22 at the Morrison-Douglas Cemetery on the grounds of Whispering Winds Bible Camp in rural Crawford County, Missouri....
