Ada Marjorie Lyda, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2016 in Grants Pass, Oregon at the age of 97.
Ada was born on June 17, 1918 in Hale Center, Texas, to William & Florence Norris and was the fourth of five siblings. After moving to California from Texas, Ada graduated from Compton High School with the class of 1936 and from Compton Junior College in 1938.
Ada met the love of her life and husband for 73 years in Compton. They became engaged on July 4, 1938 and married on June 17, 1942 at the Salvation Army Girl’s Home in Lyton, California.
As two people committed to serving God and others, Ada and Emmett worked together as officers in the Salvation Army. During WWII they served in the USO providing entertainment in the form of music and movies to the enlisted men stationed in POW camps.
Ada and her husband settled in Twin Falls, Idaho. There they raised two sons and attended Valley Christian Church. Ada worked as an optical specialist and later a sales person at Benno’s Watch and Gift Shop. Ada and Emmett relocated in 1994 to Grants Pass, Oregon where she lived the remainder of her life. There she enjoyed growing roses and studying the Bible.
Ada is survived by her husband Emmett Lee Lyda; two sons, Wes Lyda and Gary Lyda; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
