Israel was the son of William David and Nancy Jane Black. He married Elizabeth A. Stringer who was born in 1831 and died 1901 and buried in Black-Null (Miller) Cem. in West Dent Co. They had 11 children: Nancy Jane McElfresh Jackson, Elizabeth Mary White, William H., Sarah E. House, John F., Mahala Evaline Croft, Lovey Ann Asher, George Washington-(B:1866 D:1897, m: Polly Jane Heavin), Wiley, Cora Heavin, and Israel 'Buddy'. Israel is listed as a pioneer of Phelps County Missouri . He and wife Elizabeth arrived before the county was named Phelps. Cecil King wrote a book about Yancy Mills Missouri and part of the book ilists Israel and his family as prominent highly respected members of the community.
