LAWTEY- Thomas (Tom) Wesley Tatum Jr. of Lawtey died Friday, June 9, 2017 at his home in Lawtey surrounded by his loving family at his side after an extended illness. Mr. Tatum was born on January 18, 1941 in Ripley, Tippah County, Mississippi. That same year the family moved to Bear Creek, Alabama where they remained until 1952 at which time the family moved to Lawtey where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was a Christian of non-denominational faith.
Mr. Tatum spent his life working as a sawmiller as Co-Owner and Operator of Tatum Brothers Lumber Company in Lawtey. An avid basketball player in his youth, Tom’s hobbies included coon hunting, western movies, politics, imparting words of wisdom, and world class agitating.
Predeceased by parents Tom Tatum Sr. and L.A. Tatum, Mr. Tatum is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Linda Tatum, his three children Tom “Tommy” (Lisa) Tatum III, John (Christina) Tatum, and Robin Tatum, three siblings Elizabeth (James) Reed, Charles (Sylvia) Tatum, Sharon (Bill) Anderson, five grandchildren Hon. Tatum Davis, Chelsea (Pierce) Barker, Jack (Brandi) Tatum, Thomas Tatum and Tymber Tatum, two great-grandchildren and one on the way. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 6p.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Clavin Neaf and Kenion Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Conner Cemetery.
