OBITUARY: Blanche Lillian Witt
Blanche Meidell Witt went to her rest Feb. 24, 2015 in Walla Walla, WA. She had lived in the Tri-Cities since 1947. She was born in San Francisco, CA. It is no surprise to those who knew her that her nickname in school was “Sparky”!

She married Francis Meidell in 1939 and worked with him as a welder in the Long Beach shipyards in WWII. She was the only welder skilled enough and small enough to fit into the bow hull of the first icebreaker to go to Antarctica.

Blanche was diagnosed at age 30 with MS, at a time when very little was known about the disease. She credited the Lord with her 63-year remission. She was a couture dressmaker for many years. She was a brave traveler –going on a Holy Lands tour just days after the 6-Day War, and in her 60s driving the support van for a trip by a senior citizen friend as she walked, biked, and roller skated across the country.

She was devoted to her Lord, her own family, and to her church family. She knew all the members in her church by name and sight and loved being a greeter.

Blanche and Frank built a cabin themselves in the Blue Mts. and for 6 years they provided a temporary home for expectant young girls. More than one didn’t want to leave their stable and loving environment. Frank died in 1985.

In 1993 she married a long time friend Wayne Lingscheit. They enjoyed each other immensely and traveled to the South Pacific, Alaska, East Coast, and Hawaii. She was widowed again in 2000.

In Sept. 2013 as she married Harry Witt, a friend since 1951. Sadly they only had a little time together. She awaits the Great Resurrection.

Blanche is survived by her husband, Harry Witt, of Walla Walla, a daughter Tomina (Jerry) Ward of Kennewick, daughter Nikki (Ramon) Gonzalez of Grand Terrace, CA, son Frank (Marilyn) Meidell of Rolla, MO, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Interment will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park March 7 at 2 pm, and there will be a memorial service at the Kennewick SDA church at 3 pm.
