Kathryn Amsler Priddy, the second daughter of Hervey Meyer Amsler and Amanda Catherine Howze Amsler, was born in Corpus Christi, TX on March 13, 1927, and peacefully passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the age of 90, due to complications from Alzheimer's.

Kathryn grew up primarily in Houston and Austin with her older sister Betty Josephine Amsler. Kathryn attended The University of Texas at Austin, while Betty Jo attended Southern Methodist University, and both girls pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. Betty Jo's life was cut short when she died of nephritis at the age of 22, leaving behind a grief-stricken family. At the tender age of twenty, with just a few hours of college coursework remaining to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics, Kathryn was swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance with the dashing UT Petroleum Engineering/Business student, Ashley Horne Priddy of Wichita Falls, TX, and they were married over the Christmas holidays in 1947. Barely ten months later, still living in Austin, TX, they were blessed with the arrival of their firstborn child, a son they originally named Robert Hervey, but whose name was changed to Hervey Amsler Priddy enroute to the baby's christening. Hervey was given this changed name at his baptism as a tribute to Kathryn's recently deceased father, Hervey Meyer Amsler, who had passed away, unexpectedly at the age of 51. The family soon thereafter moved to Dallas, and lived on Morningside (in the "M" streets) for several years before they eventually relocated to University Park in 1950, where the family expanded with the addition of two lovely daughters, Betty Horne Priddy (born in 1951) and Kathryn "Ann" Priddy (born in 1956). The growing family eventually moved into the family's remodeled structure on Arcady in Highland Park, where Kathryn and Ashley reveled in their many happy occasions with friends and family.

Kathryn died in her home, surrounded by three generations of her much-loved family and her team of devoted caregivers. The family wishes to express their sincere and deep gratitude to Maria Bautista, Anico Daniels, Nineth Franco, Maxine Jackson, Belinda Lefall, and Letha Valentine for the assistance and loving care they provided to Kathryn during her final years. In addition, Drs. Amy Anderson and Paul Neubach and their superb staff at MD2 merit heartfelt appreciation for their excellent and professional medical care in tending Kathryn.

Kathryn was always first and foremost engaged in family commitments, which continued to be her focus during her 36 years of marriage to Ashley, who died of prostate cancer in 1984 at the age of 61. She then centered her life around the nine grandchildren (seven of whom still reside in Dallas) and seven great-grandchildren (all in Dallas) who enhanced her life, just as she enriched theirs. She also carved out plenty of time to be involved in weekly singles- and doubles-tennis, and maintained active involvement in St. Michael and All Angels Church from its inception (where Ashley once served as Senior Warden), the Junior League of Dallas (where she served on the Board as Treasurer), The Hockaday School (where she was a Life Trustee), multiple terms on the Board of Friends of the Governor's Mansion, where she was also a Life Trustee, the Governor's Higher Education Coordinating Board, and considerable involvement with the Dallas Symphony and the Dallas Arboretum. Kathryn was also a member of Dallas Country Club and Brook Hollow Golf Club where she would often orchestrate special family gatherings during the holidays throughout the year. She was an enthusiastic world-traveler, visiting every continent on the globe, and taking her children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren on exciting travels to distant places. Until just recently, these included annual family junkets for her entire extended family to her favorite destination, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in Hawaii, where up to 24 family members would enjoy the ultimate memorable setting for these yearly family get-togethers, a reflection of her generosity which has provided her offspring with an abundance of cherished memories.

Kathryn valued the importance of education and generously encouraged and enabled her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to pursue their education. She and Ashley often said that education is the one thing that cannot be taken away from their children, and this is undoubtedly the greatest gift of all.

Kathryn is survived by her three children: Hervey Amsler Priddy and his spouse Dianne; Betty Priddy Walker; Ann Priddy Bentley and her spouse Rhett; as well as nine grandchildren: Kathryn Walker Francis, Caroline Walker, Willard "Elliott" Walker III, Ashley Walker Coles, Amsler Priddy Bell, Ashley Warren Priddy, Elizabeth Bentley, Virginia Bentley, David Bentley, and seven great-grandchildren: Jackson Priddy Bell, Eleanor Amsler Bell, Ashley Carter Francis, James Byrne Francis IV, Robert Priddy Francis, Leighton Charles Priddy and Isla Rose Priddy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, June 6, 2017, 4:00 PM in the main sanctuary at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. A reception will follow at her home. A private interment will take place prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are gratefully encouraged to Saint Michael and All Angels Church, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, TX 75225; The Hockaday School, 11600 Welch Road, Dallas, TX 75229; or Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas, 3001 Knox Street, Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75205, or the charity of your choice.
