Mr. Calvin Clinton Hyers, Sr.,73 died Thursday morning at Satilla Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Dixie Union (Ware Co, GA) where he had lived most of his life.

He is the son of the late Jacob Clinton and Mary Ford Jordan Hyers and the grandson of the late Crawley and Roxie Ford Jordan and Jacob and Ida Henderson Hyers. He attended Dixie Union Elementary and was a graduate of Mt. Berry Academy High School in Rome Georgia. He sailed around the world while serving in the United States Navy as a signal flagman and served on the USS Hunt. He is retired from Southern Bell with 38 years of service and also a retired farmer. He was a member of Communications Worker of America, Frank C. Folks Lodge 192 F&AM, York Rite Mason, Hasan Shrine Temple, and the Waycross Shrine Club. He was a member of Haywood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jean Rogers Hyers of Waycross, three daughters Robyn Kelafant of Olanta, S.C., Mary Ford Spivey (John) of Douglas, Sara "Sally" Dougherty (Phil) of Jacksonville, FL., a son Calvin Clinton "Cal" Hyers, Jr. (Jill) of LaGrange, seven grandchildren Katie Kelafant, Casey Kelafant, Lew Hyers, Meg Hyers, Abby Spivey, Jenna Spivey, Georgia Dougherty, three brothers Chester Hyers (Margaret) of Blackshear, Franklin Hyers ( Agnes) of North Augusta, SC., Jay Hyers (Anisha) of Blackshear, a sister, Jakye McCall (Dan) of Ocala, FL., a Step mother Darciele Hyers of Blackshear, a sister in law Betty Rogers Katkaveck of Chester Springs, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 pm Sunday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held in Jordan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Saturday evening at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.milesodumfuneralhome.com.
