Louis B. Bemont, age 88 of Winnfield, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Winnfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Bemont was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served in all five major European battle campaigns of World War II. He was retired from Armco Steel Incorporated of Houston Texas where he worked for thirty one years as a railroad engineer. Upon his retirement, he and his family returned to Winnfield where he worked for Louisiana Pacific until 1995.

Mr. Bemont was born July 3, 1918 in Montgomery, Louisiana and is the son of the late George W. Bemont and the late Mary Snellings Bemont. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: George Bemont, Jim Bemont, and T. J. Bemont; two sisters: Katie Bemont Bradshaw and Elizabeth Bemont Owens.

Mr. Bemont is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith Faye Wilkerson Bemont whom he married on October 5, 1942; two sons: Jimmie B. Bemont and his wife Nan of El Paso, Texas and Billy K. Williams and his wife Leslie of White Hall, Arkansas; two daughters: Deanna Bemont Johns of Winnfield and Brandie Walker Smith and her husband Kenny of Winnfield; twelve grandchildren: Wes Bemont and his wife Deborah of Austin, Texas, Les Bemont and his wife Maria of Rowlett, Texas, Gary Bemont of El Paso, Texas, Tommy Forgue of Houston, Texas, Michael Stewart of Houston, Texas, Ricky Johns of Winnfield, Micah Williams and Luke Bemont Williams of White Hall, Arkansas, and Cody Tarver, Justin Tarver, Baylee Tarver, and Brandon Tarver all of Winnfield; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Bemont will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007 in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Brent Bemont and Lindsey Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery in Joyce. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.

Pallbearers will be: Phillip Wilkerson, Josh McAllister, Shaun Lasyone, Jody Lasyone, David Key, and Brandon Knotts.
