Sophia Phillips, wife of John Hamlin, was a sister of my great grandfather, Jesse Walter Phillips. She was born July 18, 1818 in Person County, North Carolina and died there April 8, 1885. She was married to John Hamlin on February 15, 1885. She was married within sight of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Their old home still stood in 1973. They are buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. - Victor N. Phillips, 'The New Ozark Cousins.'
