Born in Alabama between 1819 and 1824, William Garrard married in 1842 to Elizabeth Margaret Breckenridge. With their youngest child, John Levin Garrard, they moved to Kemper County in 1844. On January 10th 1845, they joined the Pleasant Springs Presbyterian Church.

They had four more children, all born in Kemper County. According to church records, Elizabeth Margaret died on 9/20/1862. William married the following year to Sallie Roundtree and they had three additional children.

William served in the Civil War and was held in a POW camp. He survived and died Oct 10, 1870 according to church records.

Although no tombstone has been located, he was most certainly buried in Pleasant Springs, due to his long association with the church.
