Myrtie McRay Graves, 88, of Charlottesville, died Sunday.

She was born in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Carter E. Sr. and Myrtie Wilhoit Graves. A sister, Cornelia Graves Andrews, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two brothers, Carter E. Graves Jr. and his wife, Ilar, of Ivy and George F. Graves of Bellevue, Washington; four nieces, Jackie Andrews Carey and her husband, Jerry, Beverly Andrews Lowe; Gail Andrews Casselton and her husband, Thomas, and Georgiann Graves; two nephews, Allen B. Graves and Merrick Graves; and her long-time companion and co-worker, Elizabeth A. Nalley.

Myrtie was a native of Charlottesville, graduated from Lane High School, attended Madison College in Harrisonburg and received her BA from the University of Virginia School of Education.

She attended the University of Virginia School of Radiology Technology and was certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technology. She was employed by the Radiology Department as a Staff Technologist and later was appointed Director of the School of Radiology Technology. She served as President from 1963 until 1964 of the Virginia Society of Radiological Technology. For her contribution to this organization, she was honored as a "Life Member". She served the Radiology Department for 40 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church, Park Street and served as Director of the Adult Department for several years. She was ordained a Deacon in 1981 and served a three-year term on that board.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the First Baptist Church on Park Street with the Reverend David Johnson officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
