Patricia McKissack Fowler, age 76, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on May 22, 2017. She was born October 1, 1940, in Dallas, Texas to Charles Sidney and Ola Nean (Parris) McKissack.

On December 21, 1999, Pat married Gene W. Fowler in Sherman, Texas.

In the 1970s, Pat was co-founder of the Plano League for Environmental Action (PLEA); later publisher of The Plano Chronicle, a weekly newspaper. Intelligent, creative and a gifted writer, she was a partner and creative director for MetaFour, a public relations and video production company. Pat spent more than four decades in medical administration in orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery. She was a natural leader; modest, generous and compassionate, able and ready to take charge when needed. She was founder and president of Medica International, a non-profit program providing reconstructive surgery for children with facial deformities. Pat made more than a dozen extended surgical trips to Russia; leading medical teams, donating advanced medical equipment, coordinating with government agencies and working with in country children’s programs.

Pat was an active volunteer in the Collin County Master Gardeners Association. As volunteer project manager, she directed the construction and development of New Hope Town Park. She enjoyed gardening and making jewelry; but most of all, Pat loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Gene W. Fowler of McKinney, Texas; children, Patricia Diana Sturges of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Eric James Sturges (Holly) of Burlington, North Carolina, Denise Lynne Holden (Bobby) of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley and Anna Sturges, James Lynch, Christopher, Kyle, Joshua and Kelsey Holden; great-grandchild, Ellis Holden; brother, Charles Sidney McKissack II; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Pat is preceded in death by son from her former marriage to James L. Sturges; her parents; and sisters, Alice Ragsdale and Mary Butler.

A memorial service is pending on Friday, June 16 at 2:00 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
