Helen Harrison Ruffin, age 74 years of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 in Sacramento, California.

Born in Biloxi, she graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Helen grew up as a role model for her siblings on Keller Ave. She graduated from Mercy Nursing School in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and spent the next 50 years lighting up others’ lives.

She was a wonderful mother, with always just the right amount of guidance and encouragement and a delightful friend to all that knew her. Helen centered her life on her family and focused on her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Younger family members always looked forward to Aunt Helen’s summer camp where she would take them camping on the Natchez Trace.

Helen enjoyed exercising including teaching aerobics, biking across Mississippi, a marathon in London as well as gardening and ballroom dancing.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Byron W. Ruffin; her parents, Curtis R. & Blanche Harrison; her brothers, Charles T. Harrison and Tim Harrison; and her infant son, Daniel Bryan.

Helen is survived by her children, Lee Bryan (Donna) of Vicksburg, Bill Bryan (Anne) of Shreveport, and Lisa Bryan of Sacramento; her sister, Joy Goundas (Angelo); her brother Curtis R. Harrison (Donna); her sister-in-law, Kay Harrison; five grandchildren, Betsy, Matthew, and Steven Bryan of Vicksburg and Elizabeth and Sarah Bryan of Shreveport; and many loving nieces and nephews along the coast.

We will celebrate Helen’s life with her family and friends of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Biloxi on Friday, Feb. 13. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Biloxi, MS, with visitation beginning at noon. There will be a graveside service following Mass at Biloxi National Cemetery beginning at 2:30 p.m.

For Helen’s friends in Pass Christian there will be an additional Mass on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian, Mississippi, with a visitation prior to Mass.
