Alan Ray Krebs, age 84 of Ocala, Florida passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017. He was born on December 20, 1932 in Centralia, Illinois the son of Raymond A and Theodell (Crocker) Krebs and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Arlene (Kramer) Krebs of Ocala, FL,; four sons: Clay (Sharon) Krebs of Tega Cay, SC, Cole Krebs of Taichung, Taiwan, Melanie (Chris) Stevens of Tallahassee, FL, and Greg (Janice) Stevens of Ocean Springs, MS; his siblings: John (Barb) Krebs of Carlyle, Karen (Ron) Kruep of Mt. Vernon, and Kathy (Neil) Nothaus of Carlyle; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Alan grew up in Carlyle and served in the United States Army after his graduation from high school. Alan's commanding officer in Korea was Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a fact Alan was happy to share many years later as Dr. Kevorkian became rather well-known. While serving as a medic in Korea, Alan had the opportunity to teach the local Children English and from that point on he knew what he wanted to do after the Army, teach. He returned to Southern Illinois and when he wasn't working for his dad at the Ray Krebs Store, Alan would be at Southern Illinois University working to obtain his bachelor's degree. Later in life he returned to college to obtain his Master's degree in Education Administration. He taught school for a couple of years and later became an elementary school principal in Virginia, an assistant principal and later a high school principal in two schools in Iowa.
Mr. Krebs worked for the University of South Carolina in Columbus, SC for several federal programs. He later found his way to Florida to work for several state agencies. He worked for the Florida Division of Emergency Management in several capacities and even spent time working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Alan was recognized on numerous occasions by the State of Florida for his services during several events, Hurricane Andrew being one of the most notable instances of his service to his community, state, and country.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Carlyle.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carlyle.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of donor's choice and will be received at the church or at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
