Vernon Clair Timperley was born on September 15, 1924, to Albert and Esther (Ingle) Timperley. He grew up in Huron graduating from Huron High School in 1943. After graduation he entered the Army Air Force in July 1943, and served until February 1946. When he returned from the service he was employed by Chicago Northwestern railroad as a fireman and a Locomotive Engineer. He retired in June 1987 after 41 years of service.
He married Shirley Best on September 12, 1949, in Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home in Huron. Shirley passed away March 3, 2001. On July 6, 2002, he married Kathleen Melstad of Huron.
Vernon was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion, United Transportation Union and an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
