Funeral services for the Rev. Landon Earl Saunders, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Rev. Saunders died at 8:49 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, in Methodist Hospital Plainview.

He was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Cleburne. He grew up in Cleburne and graduated from Cleburne High School. He joined the Navy Seabees in 1943 and served in the reconstruction of Pearl Harbor.

He was discharged in 1946, attended Texas Wesleyan College from 1950-1953 and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954-1955.

He was a missionary in Miami, Ariz., from 1956-1960, Oklahoma City, Okla., 1960-1964, Taos, N.M., 1964-1972 and served as pastor at Creed Colo., from 1972-1974, Prescott Valley, Ariz., from 1974-1976 and Sanders, Ariz., 1976-1986. He retired in 1986 and moved to Plainview.

He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and the Plainview Quilters Club.

He and his wife, Jim Faye, were married Sept. 1, 1950, in Union City, Tenn. She died on Jan. 26, 1988 in Lubbock.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Polly) Morgan of Plainview, Mrs. Jay (Becky) Hardin of Lubbock and Mrs. Ted (Maggie) Faull of Rockford, Ill.; two sons, Richard Saunders of Plainview and Paul Saunders of Houston; one brother, James Edwin Saunders of Weatherford; his father, J.H. Saunders of Ozark; one sister, Lonelle Spillers of Ozark, Ala., and 13 grandchildren.

His mother, Lora Harvey Saunders, died in 1926 and his step-mother, Eva Saunders, died in 1971.
