Hazel M. Stephens, 102, passed away at Colonial Manor Nursing Home on May 29, 2017, at 4:30pm.

She was born at home on a farm north of Catlin, Illinois on February 21, 1915, to Pearl and Phillip Schutz.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and her six siblings; Mabel, Russel, Davin, and Virgil Schutz, and Freda and Ruby Alcorn.

She graduated from Catlin High School with the class of 1933. She was married to Truman Stephens for 44 years until his death in 1982. Hazel and Truman built the A&W Root Beer Drive-In on North Vermilion in 1953 and operated it for 17 years.

Hazel was a very generous person most interested in doing whatever she could for others, especially for her family. She will be greatly missed by her family; daughter Lonna (Al) Wagner; grandchildren, Jana (Troy) Drennan, Tom (Suzi) Wagner, Alison (Knoel) Kaneshiro; her great grandchildren, Parker and Lauren Drennan, Lane, Lela, Samantha, and Sloan Wagner, and Kristen Kaneshiro.

She would also want to mention nieces, Jeanene (Bob) McQuown and Paula (Ken) Broderick, who did so much for her in her later years.
