Don was born in Trenton, Grundy Co., MO. to Ruth Schooler and James Lee Hammons. He was the third of eight children. He worked in the shipyards and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War 2. Don was married to Ruby Jean Kerr on Oct. 1, 1942 in Carson City, NV. They had four children, two of them are buried nearby. After Ruby died in 1965, Don met and married Anna Potosky Silveria, a long time Chico resident on Oct. 2, 1965 in Chico. Don loved to ride horses and in later years, he had a wagon and a team of mules that he often entered in 'Mule Days' in Bishop, CA. Don died in Carson City, NV. after a long illness. He is survived by wife, Ann and daughters, Cathy and Jeannie, two brothers and one sister. Don was cremated and his ashes put in with his son, Raymond Lee Hammons. His wife, Ruby, daughter Olivia and daughter in law Oma are buried nearby.
