EASTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Jean (Szary) Arrighi, 95, of Briggs Street, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2017, at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by her family.
She was born in Easthampton on Feb. 11, 1922, the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Skorski) Szary.
She graduated from the former Sacred Heart School in Easthampton and attended Smith Vocational High School. Jean worked at the former United Elastic Corp. for many years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Easthampton Council on Aging. She was an avid bingo player who enjoyed playing at the Senior Center every Tuesday afternoon with her friends.
Jean was married for 65 years to the late Victor Arrighi, who passed away in 2007.
She leaves her daughters Patricia Barrett and her husband, Paul, of South Carolina and Maryellen Hurlburt and her husband, Greg, of Easthampton; her sister Alma Craig of Easthampton; her grandchildren Trisha Barrett of South Carolina, Rebecca Kostelyk of Florida, Debra Saabye of Wilbraham, Jennifer Wood of Easthampton, Amy Pace of West Springfield, Timothy Hurlburt of Easthampton, Joan Barrett of Florida and Craig Barrett of Easthampton; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband she is predeceased by her brothers Walter and Edward Szary; and her sisters Josephine Glavickas, Helen Skrzyniarz, Amelia Sullivan, Anne Martin and Alice Pinkos.
Her life was devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was blessed to have a large family and enjoyed participating in all events and celebrations.
At her request funeral arrangements will be at the convenience of the family at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
The Boucher-O'Brien Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements.
Donations in her memory may be made to Easthampton Ambulance Fund, 32 Payson Ave., Easthampton, MA 01027.
