ARTHUR CLEAVE RITES OBSERVED
Funeral services for Arthur Burton Cleave, 83, were conducted at Catron Chapel, Whitefish, Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John F. Reagan of the Methodist Church officiating.
Pallbearers were Dave Morris, George Duffy, Joe Minthorn, H. G. Ferguson, George Cowle and Hugh Adair. Burial was in Conrad Memorial Cemetery at Kalispell and graveside rites were under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge of Columbia Falls.
Arthur Burton Cleave was born at Ottawa, Ill., Sept. 3, 1870. He grew to manhood in Illinois where he farmed for several years. He later farmed in Alberta, Canada, Washington, and later in Montana. He moved his family to the Flathead in 1921, living near Half Moon for 14 years.
His wife, Anna, preceded him in death in 1940. Mr. Cleave was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Columbia Falls and also a member of the Eastern Star.
He died April 25 at Beaverton, Ore., after a stroke which he suffered on Dec. 21, 1953. He had been bedridden since that time.
He is survived by one son, LeRoy Cleave, of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Vern Hedman of Whitefish and Mrs. Oscar Indahl of Beaverton, Ore.; two brothers, Irving Cleave of Bremerton, Wash., and Charles Cleave of Cutler, California; one sister, Ada Hillman of Santa Barbara, California, and 16 grandchildren.
