Harmon James Limes served in the 18th Independent Battery of Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery during the Civil War.

He was the oldest son of John Limes and Sarah Ann Cory Limes who resided in Good Hope, Fayette County, Ohio.

His father was also in the Civil War as well as a brother, William Henry, who served with the 168th Ohio Company I.

His father, John Limes, served with the 63rd Ohio, Comapny "E".

His sisters were Rebecca, Mary Nancy Elizabeth, and two other brothers were Nathan H., and the Rev. John Leighton Limes.
