James was the son of Thomas (b. 1701) and Hannah Reynolds Goodrich. Some records have the birth date for James as May 2, 1721. Susanna Hale was the wife of James. Ashbel (b. 1749) was the son of James.

According to the "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War", James fought in the Revolutionary War as a Private with Capt. Joseph Barns Co.,Col. Benjamin Symonds (Berkshire County) regiment, enlisted April 26, 1777, discharged May 19, 1777, service 24 days; company called out by order of Maj. Gen. Gates and marched to Saratoga, roll sworn to before Chairman of committee of Lanesborough, also Capt. David Wheelers's Co., Col. John Brown's detachment of militia, enlisted June 30, 1777, discharged July 25, 1777, service 26 days; detachment stationed at Fort Ann, roll sworn to before Chairman of committee of Lanesborough, also Capt. Ebenezer Newell's Co., Col. Symond's regiment, service 8 days; company marched from Lanesborough to Meloomscuyck on the alarm of Aug. 14, 1780; also Capt. Peter Porter's detachment from Gen. Fellows (Berkshire County) brigade; enlisted July 1, 1778, discharged October 31, 1778, service 4 months at Albany under Gen. Stark.

One Branch of James Goodrich b. 1721 CT Documented

James Goodrich’s will mentions his two sons Ashbel and Thomas, naming Thomas as executor. “Son
Ashbel Goodrich” received wearing apparel in his father’s will dated 1812. He had received land in 18
Jan 1787, Book 19, page 263, from his father. James died in Lanesborough, Berkshire Co., MA and is
buried there in Center Cemetery. James and his two sons Ashbel and Thomas are listed on the 1790
and 1800 census for Lanesborough, Berkshire Co., MA. James Goodrich’s service in the American
Revolution has been documented through his daughter Jerusha (Goodrich) Hollis. James’ NSDAR
Ancestor Number is A045583. He was a private in Massachusetts and is listed in Massachusetts
Soldiers and Sailors, Vol. 6 page 591. James’ first wife was Susannah Hale b 21 Mar 1722/23
Glastonbury, CT. His second wife was Lydia (Remington) Curtis, wife of Abner Curtis, and who was
the mother of Lydia Curtis, first wife of Silas Goodrich. Lydia Remington Curtis Goodrich is buried
in Elbridge Rural Cemetery.
