Obituary of Jim Burleson

BURLESON, JIM SLOAN, Passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007 to join his beloved wife of 42 years. He was born December 15, 1924 in Houston. He was a POW of Stalag 17 for 12 months as well as a Purple Heart Recipient. For 32 years, he dedicated his life to the American Red Cross as a National Field Director for many hurricanes. He was in charge of shelters for Hurricanes Camille, Betsy and Andrew, the tidal wave in Guam and many tornadoes throughout the south. He was a hero in many eyes and always wanted to serve humanity. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Burleson, sons Gary Allen Burleson, and Jim Louis Burleson; sister Florine Reiniets and brother John A. Burleson; survivors include his daughter Becki Crowson; grandson James Daniel Crowson and wife Amy Noel; sister Lucille Below; and brother Joe Burleson. Internment services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2007 at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas with Gen. James McPartland officiating. He has left behind a great legacy and would be honored by all who attend.
