Joan Mecham Williams

October 29, 1944 – April 12, 2017

This beautiful lady that we call mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday April 12 in the afternoon. She was born on October 29, 1944 in Burley, Idaho to E. Hal and Harriet P. Mecham. She was raised and spent her childhood years in Rupert, Idaho. Joan attended the University of Idaho for two years and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She then later attended Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing in Salt Lake City, UT. where she became a Registered Nurse. She then attended the University of Utah and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1974. Education was important to her.

She was married for approximately 10 years to T. Glade Williams of Spanish Fork, Utah and later divorced, never to remarry again.

She spent most of her adult life in Bountiful UT. where she worked full time as a nurse for the government from where she later retired and also raised her two children as a single mother. Joan was a devoted, loving and caring mother and everything she did was for her children. She was selfless, she taught by example be it good or bad. She was quick witted, funny and taught us to laugh at ourselves. My brother and I wanted for nothing she gave us everything we wanted and more even if that meant she went without. That is who our mother was, selfless and always willing to give all she had. Her life was not an easy one and yet she hung on for a long time. She taught my brother and I to be strong and independent. She taught us the importance of education by educating herself. She always used to say "you never know when you're going to have to take care of yourself so you better be prepared." A few things about Joan that I remember and love are her love of Elvis Presley, she loved original lays potato chips, she loved to knit and crochet, she loved soda of all flavors, black licorice anything, coffee, she enjoyed watching sports on tv later on in life. But, mostly she enjoyed and loved her grandchildren even though she couldn't physically get to them in the last 10 years she always sent cards on their birthdays and had special fun things, and treats for them to enjoy when they would come to visit.

Joan is leaving behind her two children Brian T. Williams of West Haven, UT and Kristine Williams Pearce of Gilbert AZ. She is also leaving behind eight grandchildren: Race Williams, Garrison Williams, McKenna Williams, Brighton Williams, Cole Pearce, Ryder Pearce, Micah Pearce and Landon Pearce. Also surviving are her three siblings, Janet Peck (Rulon) , Hal Mecham Jr. (Cheri) and Robert Pixton Mecham (Paula) .

She will be missed but never forgotten. We love you mom!
