William "Bill" Alexander McKay, 77, widower of Patricia "Patsy" Walsh McKay, of Waterloo, SC formerly of Richmond VA, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. Born July 5, 1939 in County Down, Ireland to the late Niall and Elizabeth McMullan McKay. Bill came to New York at an early age and graduated from The City College of New York as a Geologist, he volunteered to served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, however he was assigned as a company clerk just because he knew Morse Code. Bill worked most of his life for and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Richmond, VA., the American Legion, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Surviving are his brother John McKay and his wife Grace of New York; his nephews Willie McKay of New York, Patrick O'Neill and Sean O'Neill both of Texas; his niece Meighan O'Neill of Texas; his mother-in-law Virginia Walsh of New York; his sisters-in-law Barbara Walsh of New York, Virginia O'Neill and husband Pat of Texas; dedicated friends Jane and Warren Fauser with whom he made his home, of Waterloo, and Lisa and Brian Lewis of TN. A Memorial Mass will be conducted Thursday, June 8, at 12 Noon from St. Peter Catholic Church, 800 E. Grace St. Richmond, VA with Father Gino Rossi officiating.

A private inurnment will take place at a later date in Mepkin Abbey Cemetery in Monks Corner, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Bill's memory be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont Hospice House, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Mepkin-Abbey, 1098 Mepkin Abbey Rd. Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
