Ruth was born July 16, 1913 in Fargo, N.D. to the late Phillip and Dorothea (Rediske) Bohnsack. She married Wallace Johanning on October 4, 1945 in Racine. Wallace preceded her in death on July 20, 1988. Ruth was a school teacher and taught for Zion Lutheran School, Wausau, St. Peter’s Lutheran School, Schofield, and Trinity Lutheran School, Racine. Ruth was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Schofield. She was a choir member, a member of the ladies aid, and started the school library at St. Peter’s. Ruth loved books, playing the piano, the Packers and Brewers, crossword puzzles, gardening of flowers and baking “Kuchen”.
Survivors include three sons; Donald Johanning of Ashland, Gerald (Sue) Johanning of Wauwatosa, Charles (Rita) Johanning of Mosinee; six grandchildren, James, John, Dan, Laura Nye, Linda and LeAnn; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Sara, Courtney, and Jason; and five great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Brady, Sophia, Anna, and Kaitlyn.
Ruth was preceded in death by five brothers; Erwin, George, John, Walt and infant brother Alfred, and four sisters; Laura, Nora, Elsa and Marie.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 25, 2008 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schofield. Pastor Walter C. Davidson will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM at the church and last until the time of services. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Racine on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:00 PM.
