LaVell H Carlsen, 90, passed away April 30, 2017, at his home in Hyrum, Utah. He was born in Hyrum on Feb. 17, 1927, to Charles O. and Erma Carlsen. He married Joy Stromberg on May 1, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple. She was the love of his life. He was a World War II veteran. He loved camping, hiking and fishing with his family. He was an avid gardener. He was deeply loved by all of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Carlsen, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, sons Michael (Carma) Carlsen, Wayne (Janice) Carlsen, daughters Sherry (Lee) Phipps, Julie (KC) Thomson, sisters Millicent Parkinson, Sherlaine Pritchett, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A viewing will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the LDS Church located at 125 N. 400 West, Hyrum, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at noon with Bishop Brower presiding. Interment will be in the Hyrum Cemetery with the American Legion providing military honors. A special thanks to Access Hospice and the Hyrum 5th Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service.
