Mr. Pope was the son of Claude and Nellie (Hope) Pope. He celebrated 63 years of marriage with Ruth Costin Pope prior to her death in 2001.

He served as the Minister of Center Baptist Church for many years, served area churches in Duplin and Sampson Counties as a Minister and was a dedicated member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Pope was predeceased by his wife, Ruth and daughter, Carol Pope Whittle.
