The two side by side markers for Clarissa Watson née Pelton Trumbull Brown (on the left) & James Watson Trumbull (on the right) are in poor condition: cracked, worn & missing pieces. They're situated near the monument for their son John Potwine Trumbull (& family) as well as to Clarissa's briefly second husband, Levi Brown.

James Watson Trumbull was the son of James Trumbull & Jane Watson (daughter of Robert Watson & his second wife Eunice Seymour). He married his cousin, Claudia Watson née Pelton, daughter of James Pelton & Clarissa Watson (Jane's sister), on February 21st, 1827 (in the marriage record his bride is listed as "Claudia" Pelton).

The couple had their first child, James Pelton Trumbull, in Connecticut before moving to Vermont where sons John Potwine & George Howard were born. The family may have moved to New York briefly or perhaps daughter Frances Elizabeth was born there (May 1840) enroute to Illinois.

The James W Trumbull family appears on the 1840 census for Kane County. The age ranges fit for the couple & their four children but there is also an unknown male aged 20-30 years old living in their household.

Four more children were born to the couple between 1840-50: two daughters who died in infancy (both named Anna, no records of death or graves found), Charles & Edward Payson Trumbull. The 1850 Charles (as St Charles was known), Kane Co., IL census has been badly transcribed (surname listed as Isambull, Clarissa as Clarripa, etc.) but the YOB dates are quite accurate.

James died just a month after daughter Frances Elizabeth was married. His wife remained a widow for 16 years before marrying late in life to the Deacon Levi Brown, himself a widower. See his wife's link for info on their children.

James' marker is mostly legible. Dec 28 is clear, YOD is not. The aged line reads 54 Yrs which would give him a YOB of 1803 which is not in agreement with other records.
