An Old Settler Dead.
Abraham Shurtz, one of the early settlers of southern Cowley, died last night about midnight at his home northwest of the city. Mr. Shurtz' death was due to paralysis and heart failure. He has been in failing health for some time, but has not been able to be out most of the time, and the news of his death came as quite a surprise to his many friends in this city.
Mr. Shurtz was 70 years of age at his last birthday and was the father of quite a large family. His sons, the Shurtz boys, as they are called, are prosperous farmers west of the city, well known in town, and one daughter resides in the city, Mrs. S.J. Gilbert.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at Mt. Zion church, followed by interment in Mercer cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow.
