Leona Marie Clancy, 98, of Jacksonville, died peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2017, surrounded by her family at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. Leona was born October 31, 1918, in Jacksonville, the daughter of William Joseph and Anna Marie Ridder Hermes. Leona was raised in Alexander on the family farm and attended elementary school in Alexander. She later graduated from Routt High School in 1936.

In 1941, Leona married Francis James Clancy at the Church of the Visitation in Alexander. Leona traveled to California with her husband during his active duty in the Army during World War II. While her husband was stationed in the Philippines, Leona resided on the family farm in Alexander. Following World War II, Leona moved to Jacksonville where she spend the next 70 years.

Leona was an active member of the Church of Our Saviour, Altar and Rosary Society, and Catholic Daughters of America. She was an avid bridge player and a talented seamstress.

Leona was employed at Norris Hospital and later by Passavant Area Hospital before her retirement in 1985.

Leona is survived by her children, Bill (Joyce) Clancy of Jacksonville, Susan (Charles) Eck of Indian Head Park, Elaine (George) Davis of Oak Brook Terrace, Stephen (Delsie) Clancy of Jacksonville, Bernard (Rhonda) Clancy of Chatham, and Janet (David) Benson of Bloomington. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Craig, David, Jennifer, Christine, Amie, Scott, Jacob, Lauren, Bryan, Laurel, John, and Christina, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a sister, Dorothy Dierker of Peoria and brothers Vincent (Bobbie) Hermes of New Berlin and Father Joseph Hermes MM of California.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, two grandchildren, Kevin Clancy and Mathew Clancy, two brothers, Leo William and Francis Hermes, and one sister, Genevieve Shultz.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Williamson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Funeral Home. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
