Irene was born Feb. 27, 1920 to William and Alice Marie (Crangle) White. She married Arthur L. Strother on Nov. 2, 1940 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2000. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Gene White; and two sisters, Ellen Kamp and Marjorie Ambrosch.
Surviving are two sons, William “Bill” (Judy) Strother and Mark (Judy) Strother, both of Peoria; one daughter, Lynn (Shawn) Patton of Mackinaw; and eight grandchildren, Art, Stacie, Tracie, Erin, Patrick, Jamie, Kimberly, and Sean; and nine great-grandchildren, Luke, Jack, Cole, Jacob, Isabel, Andrew, Jocelyn, Delaney, and Wesley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Irene attended Eureka College for two years and later taught in a one room school house in Deer Creek.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen Club at Freedom Hall in Morton and was a former lady of the Red Hat Society.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Kyle Lucas officiating. Cremation will be accorded following services. Burial will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
